Having come from behind late on to snatch three points against Watford on Wednesday, Tottenham have the genuine chance to push themselves into the top two of the Premier League.Manchester City’s shock loss on Tuesday means the gap is two points between second and third, giving Mauricio Pochettino the chance to overhaul the champions, if only briefly. They will, however, have to overcome the very side who dealt defeat to the Citizens – Newcastle, led by Rafa Benitez. Match Preview Having suffered an alarming dip in form, with consecutive exits from both English cup competitions, Tottenham looked to get their season back on track against Watford after they came from behind late on to claim the three points .Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been robbed of their most talismanic player in the shape of Harry Kane through injury, but the return of Son from Asian Cup duty helped inspire them to victory. As wins go, it could prove to be one of their most important for the 2018-19 campaign too, after it lifted them within touching distance of Manchester City following the champions’ shock loss on Tuesday .With just two points separating the second-place City from Spurs, Pochettino can surely smell a chance to pile on the pressure and keep his side in an unlikely three-way title race. However, to do so they will have to overcome Newcastle, the very side responsible for inflicting that surprise defeat upon Pep Guardiola and company.Rafa Benitez’s side have been embroiled in a relegation battle for most of the season but wins against fellow strugglers Cardiff and the Citizens has lifted them clear of the bottom three. The former Liverpool manager will know that it is far from a done deal however and, despite a myriad of injury problems plaguing the Magpies, will be hopeful of carrying across their positive momentum to deliver another upset. Real Madrid are in a bad way, that much is clear. What has followed a season to forget has been a litany of wild statements, rumours, hints and misinformation surrounding practically the entire workforce at the Santiago Bernabeu. The most recent of which was the future of Sergio Ramos, who had been approached by an unnamed Chinese club and by several accounts was ready to leave the Spanish capital. The Madrid captain moved to quash the rumours, however, telling the gathered media at a press conference on Thursday that he would be going nowhere, paving the way for Zidane to once again build his defence about the controversial centre-back. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Still, Goal can reveal that only 17 players in the squad are ‘safe’, with the French coach tasked with rebuilding a side that has flopped so drastically since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus – that’s just two thirds of Los Blancos’ squad. So Ramos will stay, but who are the others guaranteed to be turning out under Zizou next season? In goal, Thibaut Courtois will not only remain with the club but will be first-choice in the 2019-20 campaign, with Keylor Navas likely to find a new club before the end of the summer window.Madrid’s backline is potentially the most solid looking area of the pitch, with Dani Carvajal, Alvaro Odriozola, Ramos, Raphael Varane (who told Marca he would be staying), Nacho (recently signed a renewal), Marcelo and newcomer Eder Militao making up the list.Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric will remain the first-choice midfield three, with the latter two having signed renewals. In addition, Fede Valverde, Lucas Vazquez and Marco Asensio will also be retained by the club.Up top, Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr. will continue, while Brazilian sensation Rodrygo will arrive before the start of the new season to make up the last of those who will not be put up for sale.In terms of potential exits, goalkeepers include Navas and Zidane’s son Luca, Jesus Vallejo and Sergio Reguilon from the defensive ranks – despite both players’ desire to stay – Marcos Llorente, Dani Ceballos, Brahim Diaz and Isco from midfield – the futures of the latter two being the biggest doubts – and Mariano Diaz and Gareth Bale from the attackers’ pool. For reasons known only to the club, these are the players that Real would happily jettison to make space for new arrivals – especially with several loanees set to return. James Rodriguez, Mateo Kovacic, Andriy Lunin, Theo Hernandez, Raul De Romas, Borja Mayoral and Martin Odegaard are all in transfer purgatory. With Zidane having made up his mind regarding those already on the books, the path is clear for Los Merengues to start cleaning house. The revolution has begun.

He had heart issues at Florida. Now he has a memory problem? He has no problem remember to text a recruit at midnight, he has no problem with what play to call on fourth and 1 against Michigan.I’ll take it at face value, all Urban Meyer has demonstrated over the years is that he has a problem telling the truth.”Meyer will be able to return to the sidelines for Ohio State’s fourth game of the season. The Buckeyes are still entering the year with Big Ten title and College Football Playoff aspirations.Ohio State opens the year on Sept. 1 against Oregon State. Ryan Day is coaching the Buckeyes in Meyer’s absence.

(Photo by Mike Zarrilli/Getty Images)We’re roughly one month away from the start of the season for college football, and that means preseason predictions are being made all across the country. The latest bold take actually comes from ESPN’s latest hire, Ryan Leaf.ESPN hired Leaf over the weekend to add another element to its college football coverage. He definitely brings valued experience from his playing career to the broadcasting booth. In his first week as an analyst for ESPN, Leaf quickly made a bold prediction.Leaf believes the Utah Utes are a sleeper team to make the College Football Playoff. It’s a pretty shocking pick when you consider how overshadowed the program can be at times in the Pac-12. The reason for him picking Utah as a potential contender is because of its favorable schedule and continuity on the roster. From 247Sports:“I think that Utah could be the team, the dark horse that actually throws their hat into the ring – simply because of what their schedule is and who they have coming back,” Leaf told Playbook on SiriusXM’s ESPNU channel. “They don’t have to play Oregon or Stanford this year. And they have an opportunity with the South (Division) being kind of discombobulated. And the North is simply just going to beat up on one another. They really are.”Utah owned a 9-5 record last season under head coach Kyle Whittingham. The Utes have quarterback Tyler Huntley and running back Zack Moss returning for their senior seasons.Even though Utah has a solid schedule with several winnable matchups, it’ll open the season on the road against BYU.

I did not give him opportunity to play to his strength.”Rajpoot, who was playing only his second game this season, said the wicket was a bit helpful with some swing.”As my ball swings, I was given the responsibility to exploit the conditions. In other matches, we had flat or slow-turner wicket, so it was not that helpful. Here the wicket was green and I was given opportunity,” Rajpoot said at the post-match press conference.Playing in only his second match, Rajpoot said that he was not fitting in the team combination earlier.advertisement”The combination was not there. However, in this match the combination worked as we played Mujeeb and an Indian bowler had to fit in, therefore, I played. But there was no pressure as I was ready to play every match, I had the support of my captain and coaches,” he said. Also Read | Enjoying my batting, says KL Rahul after consistent performances for Kings XIAlso Read | R Ashwin: Would love to see Kings XI extend winning streak in Mohali to 11For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. England’s Middlesex (who have lost 112 matches) and Derbyshire (who have lost 101 T20 games) are the two team who have lost more matches in T20 cricket. In fact, RCB captain Virat Kohli has been part of 90 losses himself, the most IPL defeats in the history of the tournament.Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, reached the IPL playoffs with the win. Delhi became the second team Chennai Super Kings, for the first time since 2012 – 7 years, 84 months, 362 weeks and 2540 days to be exact.Earlier in the season, RCB had lost their first six games to equal the record of most consecutive losses at the start of the IPL, along with Delhi Daredevils in 2013. They had also broken the record of most IPL losses for RCB, 7 matches (between 19 May 2018 and 07 Apr 2019).On Sunday, DC skipper Shreyas Iyer top-scored with 52 runs from 37 balls, including 2 fours and 3 sixes and Shikhar Dhawan scored 50 runs from 37 balls, including 5 fours and 2 sixes, to help Delhi post 187 for the loss 5 wickets from their 20 overs. In reply, Royal Challengers Bangalore could manage only 171 for the loss of 7 wickets from their quota of 20 overs, as Kagiso Rabada and Amit Mishra picked up two wickets each.RCB have just 8 points from 12 games and can book their spot in the IPL playoffs with only mathematical chance. Virat Kohli after the match said that the losses in the first six games have not helped their cause this season.advertisement”We put ourselves under too much pressure in the first six games and then it is always hard work in the latter half. So, we just decided to have a lot of fun and that’s why we won four out of the last six games we have played,” Virat Kohli said at the post-match presentation.”The important thing now, with two games left, is to go out there and have fun. Not take too much pressure. Obviously, we want to perform as best as we can, but the fun factor should not go away. We have to go out there and play positive cricket. Once the last two games are done, we will sit down and see where the tournament had gone for us,” he added. Also Read | Andre Russell 2nd player after Chris Gayle to hit 50 sixes in an IPL seasonAlso Read | Hardik Pandya 91 off 34 in vain as Andre Russell ends KKR’s 6-match losing streakAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. Today, as she glances at her Roland Garros trophy, Barty sits as world number two, the highest ranking achieved by an Australian women since Evonne Goolagong in 1976.Barty, who came in the French Open seeded eighth, became the first Australian in 46 years to lift the women’s trophy at Roland Garros. Barty’s compatriot Sam Stosur got to the final at Roland Garros in 2010 but failed to get her hands on the Suzanne Lenglen Cup.Having ended 2011 as the world’s second-ranked junior, she played as a professional for three years, with little big-time success. Her Grand Slam record in those three years was seven first-round losses, and three two second-round defeats. What followed was an almost-two-year break which included a successful stint as an all-rounder for the Brisbane Heat cricket team in the 2015-16 Big Bash League.”I don’t even know if I’d be sitting here talking to you if I didn’t step away,” she smiled on Saturday, sitting next to the French Open trophy she had just won.”It’s obviously a part of my life that I needed to deal with, and I feel like it was the best decision that I made at the time, and it was an even better one coming back.”The decision was to quit the tennis tour after the 2014 U.S. Open. After impressing in the trials, Barty made her debut for the Big Bash League (BBL) team Brisbane Heat in 2015-16 season and impressed straightaway, scoring 39 off 27, including a huge six, in her league debut. She also played a List A game for Queensland women in 2015 in Adelaide.advertisementYou can take the athlete out of cricket, but you can’t take cricket out of the athlete!Congratulations @ashbar96, French Open tennis champion and former @HeatWBBL batter https://t.co/TnKZs6cv6W pic.twitter.com/XrKmFIJFE0ICC (@ICC) June 8, 2019She returned to tennis in June 2016 with a world ranking of 623.”I never closed any doors, saying, I’m never playing tennis again. For me, I needed time to step away, to live a normal life, because this tennis life certainly isn’t normal,” the 23-year-old Australian said.”I think I needed time to grow as a person, to mature. Probably more so I met an amazing group of people who couldn’t care less whether I could hit a tennis ball or not.”They accepted me, and they got to know Ash Barty. I still have those relationships to this very day.”I got an amazing amount of messages over the last couple of days from those cricket girls who were some of my best friends.”They are truly an incredible group of girls that I know I’ll have a friendship with for the rest of my life.”But she still missed the individual competitiveness that Tennis as a sport offered her and which she couldn’t find in her adopted game.”I think it was just a natural progression for me coming back to tennis. I was still involved in tennis every single day, working with Jim, my coach. I was still hitting balls, just not for myself,” Barty said.”Overall, it’s just – I miss the competition. I miss the one-on-one battle, the ebbs and the flows, the emotions you get from winning and losing matches.”They are so unique and you can only get them when you’re playing and when you become vulnerable and try and do things that no one thinks of.”Also Read | French Open 2019: Ashleigh Barty party underway post triumph in ParisAlso Read | French Open 2019: Ashleigh Barty clinches historic Roland Garros title in one-sided finalFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. He returned figures of 1 for 52 against Australia before picking up 2 for 17 against Sri Lanka. He went for 45 runs without picking up a wicket against South Africa.Rashid Khan was to have a nightmarish game against England on a flat pitch. As Eoin Morgan (148), Jonny Bairstow (90) and Joe Root (88) destroyed Afghanistan, Rashid Khan, their biggest star came under the most serious attack.Rashid Khan gave away 110 runs off his 9 overs to bowl the most expensive spell in a World Cup match. (Reuters Photo)HIGHLIGHTSMS Dhoni on Thursday conceded the highest number of byes in an ODI match in his careerIndia defeated West Indies by 125 runs in Manchester on ThursdayIndia are so far unbeaten in the World Cup 2019MS Dhoni is said to be one of the most trusted hands behind the wickets in the game but during India’s World Cup game against West Indies in Manchester, on Thursday, the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman had a rare bad day behind the stumps. At Old Trafford, MS Dhoni conceded 9 byes, the most by him in an ODI in his career, as West Indies were out chasing 269 runs after India posted 268 for 7 in their given 50 overs. Dhoni surpassed the 7 byes he conceded in 2014, coincidentally, against the same side in Kochi. In the 19th over of the second innings, MS Dhoni also missed a chance to stump Nicholas Pooran. It was when Pooran wanted to flick a floaty delivery from Kuldeep Yadav , but missed it altogther as the ball fell just in front of MS Dhoni. Though it was a tough one, but on a good day, it would have been just am easy walk in the park for Dhoni.Dhoni also gifted a boundary to Hetmyer when the wicket-keeper failed to glove an inside edge that missed the off-stump by inches. However, it would be safe to say that the former India captain compensated for all his misses when he pulled off a terrific catch behind the stumps to dismiss Carlos Brathwaite and help Jasprit Bumrah get his first wicket of the day.In a back of length delivery, angled in from Bumrah, Brathwaite got an outside edge that flew to the right of Dhoni. Though, Dhoni was wrongfooted, but he quickly got into stance to dive to his right and remove Brathwaite with his one-handed catch.advertisementAlso SeeFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. Next Rishabh Pant needs to bat where he is not left in 2 minds: Zaheer KhanFormer India pacer Zaheer Khan said Rishabh Pant needs to be used at an ideal position wherein the team management can get the best out of the young wicket-keeper batsman.advertisement Rasesh Mandani MumbaiSeptember 24, 2019UPDATED: September 24, 2019 20:17 IST Rishabh Pant has a below par average of 22 in 12 matches. (IANS Photo)HIGHLIGHTSZaheer Khan said Rishabh Pant should not do away with his natural gameRishabh Pant has been facing criticism over his ‘careless’ approachPant failed in the recently-concluded T20I series vs South AfricaAfter head coach Ravi Shastri and batting coach Vikram Rathour gave Rishabh Pant a public dressing down over his poor shot selection, it became abundantly clear the Indian team management has started to lose patience with the swashbuckling left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman.Rishabh Pant, barely 21, has smashed Test hundreds in England and Australia and that has helped the decision-makers keep their faith in him despite failures in the shorter formats. But with Wriddhiman Saha back in the mix and prospects of wicket-keeping against spin at home ahead, Rishabh Pant no longer remains a certain starter even for the Test series against South Africa starting October 2.Rishabh Pant’s below-par numbers, particularly in one day cricket (average of 22 in 12 matches) would mean he might soon be under pressure to retain his spot in the limited-overs teams. The likes of Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are waiting in the wings. But the likes of Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh and now Zaheer Khan believe the current team management is equally to blame for Pant’s current problems and confusion.”The team management should try and use him where you get the best out of him. I think his natural style is to attack. So he needs to be used where he is not left in two minds, where he knows the only thing he needs to do is the attack. If he is used in such situations, it would be good for him,” he tells India Today.Zaheer Khan believes Rishabh Pant is not a finished product yet and the team management would need to factor that in. “With time, he will have a better understanding of his game.”advertisementRishabh Pant was drafted in the World Cup squad as a replacement for injured opener Shikhar Dhawan and subsequently used in the middle order after Vijay Shankar’s injury. The World Cup did not go to plan for Pant and India; with the team management squarely blamed for promoting Pant to no.4 in testing conditions in the semi-finals.Pant has continued to bat at no.4 in subsequent matches in West Indies and at home against South Africa where he has failed to tick except in one T20 in the Caribbean. “Everyone knows the ability this player has. I think everyone has to try and make things easier for him,” says the former India pacer. Also Read | MS Dhoni shares super sweet video of his friends playing cricketAlso Read | Unfair to keep talking about MS Dhoni’s retirement: Yuvraj SinghAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. Collecting a layoff from Asamoah Gyan, Uruguayan Martin Chaves dribbled past Juanan and forced a diving save from Gurpreet Singh Sandhu in the 21st minute.A few minutes later, Raphael Augusto split the Highlanders’ defence with an exquisite pass that released Udanta into the box but the Indian winger failed to test the goalkeeper with a wayward shot from a promising position. The intensity dropped as the first half wore on. The Bengaluru defence failed to clear a loose ball inside the box after the half-hour mark and Rahul Bheke’s header back to Gurpreet ended up with Chaves who slashed wide in front of an open goal.advertisementThe game opened up after the break and both teams started finding openings.Martin Chaves’ rampaging run through the centre in the 52nd minute caught the Bengaluru defence off-guard. The forward found Gyan in space inside the box and the Ghanaian striker’s splendid effort bounced back off the bar.Bengaluru, however, responded by fashioning two huge chances. Sunil Chhetri won a header at the back post and found Michael Onwu at point-blank range but he could not sort his feet out in time and the danger was cleared.A headed clearance by Mislav Komorski after the hour-mark fell to Nishu Kumar who unleashed a powerful strike at the goal which Subhasish Roy Chowdhury in the Highlanders’ goal brilliantly kept out with one hand while diving to his right.Carles Cuadrat brought Eugeneson Lyngdoh on with less than ten minutes to go as Bengaluru tried to find a late winner but the NorthEast defence, led by Komorski and Kai Heerings, and screened by an ever-present Jose Leudo in midfield, did well to close the gaps, frustrate the hosts and pick up a point. Also see:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
